- Degrees: Consultant Psychiatrist
From early in my career I have been interested in psychological treatment methods. I first trained in Cognitive therapy in Oxford. In 93-94. I attended the Newcastle Cognitive therapy course which was one of the first in the UK. Since reaching Consultant grade I have been involved in teaching on the Scotland cognitive therapy course and delivering therapy.
During my time as a community psychiatrist I have been involved in several research projects, delivering cognitive therapy to patients with psychosis.
Since my community experience I have become convinced of the importance of psychological trauma in psychiatric presentation.
I have gained sensorimotor psychotherapy and EMDR training to deliver effective interventions in trauma related presentations.
I have developed my interest in Cognitive therapy with the adoption of a Mindfulness based approach and trained at Bangor University to deliver Mindfulness based Cognitive therapy, which we have been delivering in the community over the past ten years and currently am engaged in a series of research projects evaluating the feasibility of MBCT in a variety of different settings.
I am now semi-retired but continue to work part –time for the charity Combat Stress which is funded to support veterans with PTSD.
